The AEDAS Homes New Folies development in Andratx (Majorca, Balearic Isles) was among the winning projects in the “Residential Architecture” section of the 5th edition of the prestigious Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) international awards. These accolades awarded in Los Angeles received over 1,500 entries in 42 categories from more than 65 countries from all over the world.
The AMP are the most comprehensive architecture awards on the international scene, and they are on their way to becoming the most significant. Their aim is to promote quality architecture and their jury panel, made up of some of the most prominent professionals in the architectural world, acknowledge creativity and innovation applied in architecture, architectural landscaping and interior design.
In New Folies, the renowned AMP panel of jurors underlined: “The composition of the project aims to solve, on the one hand, the program needs of the developer in terms of surface areas and location of different houses and, on the other hand, to give a solution to the different singularities of each project such as the orientation, the implementation of the buildings on the plot, the views or, as in this case, to locate the houses adapting to the strong unevenness of the plot. The buildings are placed on the ground, adapting to the topography so that they do not interfere with each other’s sea views and that some look out over the others, as published in the AMP ‘2020 Winners’ gallery.
Environmentally friendly development
The New Folies development, a project signed by the firm SCT Estudio de Arquitectura (Ángel Sánchez-Cantalejo & Vicente Tomás), comprises 41 exclusive single-family houses in an markedly avant-garde design, each with their own private pool and numerous terraces with striking views of the Mediterranean in a privileged setting on the fabulous cove of Cala Llamp. Moreover, these are eminently sustainable dwellings that are environmentally friendly, thanks to their high energy performance, low CO2 emissions and the fact that they are fully integrated into their surroundings.
“Receiving this accolade is a huge privilege for AEDAS Homes”, stated David Martínez, the company’s CEO. “This international award confirms we are on the right road, also in project and home design. It puts us on the world map as an architectural benchmark in avant-garde residential development”, he underlined.
Vicente Tomás, one of the New Folies’ architects, expressed his satisfaction regarding the prize: “This prestigious award gives us enormous satisfaction and is of great merit, because competing internationally in the residential architecture category is very hard as it is a segment in which innumerable projects are undertaken all over the globe”.
Together with the Spanish Project by AEDAS Homes, a further 7 prizes were awarded in the same category: VI Castle Lane (London, UK), Franklin Street Residences (San Francisco, USA), Ras Houses (Bombay, India), 139 Schultz (Mexico City, Mexico), Green Peace Village Apartment (Da Nang, Vietnam), División del Norte (Mexico City, Mexico) and Terraced House in Shinsaikamachi/Sunny Grace (Shinsaikamachi, Japan).
